Anti-Aging Facial aftercare: what to do in the first 48 hours
By Body by Lily | October 21, 2026
The #1 rule: keep things cool and calm. For the first 48 hours after our 70-minute Anti-Aging Facial, skip anything that overheats your skin, think heavy sweating, hot showers/saunas, and direct sun. That one choice does a lot to protect the glow you just paid for. If you’re in Indianapolis and running straight back to life, we’ll keep this simple and doable.
After an Anti-Aging Facial, your skin is usually more responsive than normal. That’s the point. It also means the first couple of days matter more than people think. We’re Body by Lily in Indianapolis, tucked in South Pike Township near the Lafayette Square and Lafayette Road area, so we see plenty of people who need aftercare that fits into errands, school pickup, and commuting. Use this as your 48-hour game plan, then keep the “first week” notes in your back pocket.
Your 0–24 hour plan: cool skin, clean hands, zero sweating
Right after your facial, think of your skin like it’s freshly reset. We generally recommend you keep it out of “extra” situations for the rest of the day. That means avoiding heat, friction, and anything that pushes a lot of blood flow to the surface.
Do this
- Keep your skin clean and touch it less than you want to. Clean hands only.
- Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser if you need to wash. Lukewarm water only.
- Apply a light moisturizer if you feel dry or tight.
- If you go outside, wear broad-spectrum SPF and keep sun time short.
Avoid this
- Vigorous exercise or anything that makes you sweat heavily for at least 24 hours (often 48 is better).
- Hot yoga, saunas, steam rooms, hot baths, and long hot showers.
- Swimming pools, lakes, and hot tubs for 24–48 hours.
- Exfoliating tools, facial brushes, scrubs, or picking at texture.
If you’re running errands near West 38th Street and Lafayette Road after your appointment, toss a small SPF and a clean face mask in your bag. A mask is optional, but clean fabric matters. And keep your phone off your cheek if you can. That little bit of friction can irritate freshly treated skin.
24–48 hours after: keep results, don’t “test” your skin
Day two is when people get tempted. Your skin starts looking smoother, and it’s easy to think, “Great, now I’ll do my peel pads, retinol, and a long workout.” This is where a lot of irritation comes from. Give your skin the full 48 hours of calm.
We generally recommend you continue to avoid heavy sweating, tanning, and heat exposure through the second day. Sunscreen stays non-negotiable. In Indianapolis, even in October when the air cools down, UV is still present. Add indoor heating starting up in fall, and skin can dry out fast. Hydration and barrier support matter more than aggressive “anti-aging” actives right now.
Quick rule: if it tingles, heats you up, or makes you red, save it for later.
The first week: what not to do after a facial (and what helps)
For most people, the first week is about two things: keeping your skin barrier happy and keeping pigment triggers low. Translation, protect against sun and don’t over-exfoliate.
Skip strong actives for 3–7 days
Unless we told you otherwise, we generally suggest holding off on stronger ingredients for several days after an Anti-Aging Facial. That includes retinoids/retinol, AHA/BHA acids, exfoliating toners, and strong vitamin C formulas. People often restart too early and then wonder why they’re flaky or extra sensitive.
Hands off, even if you feel bumps
A little texture can show up as your skin shifts and sheds. Don’t pick. Don’t scrub. If you get a small breakout, keep your routine simple and let us know if it doesn’t settle down.
Keep SPF going all week (and honestly, always)
If you do one thing right after facial week, make it sunscreen. This is especially true if you’re driving between Indianapolis, Speedway, and Brownsburg or sitting near windows at work. UV sneaks in. Consistent SPF helps your facial results last longer and keeps future discoloration calmer.
A simple post-facial skincare routine (morning and night)
You don’t need a 12-step routine to protect your results. You need the right types of products, used consistently, while your skin settles.
Morning (2–3 minutes)
- Gentle cleanse or rinse with lukewarm water.
- Hydrating serum (look for hyaluronic acid).
- Barrier moisturizer plus mineral SPF (broad spectrum).
Evening (3–5 minutes)
- Gentle cleanse. No scrubs. No cleansing brushes.
- Hydrating serum if you’re feeling dry.
- Moisturizer that supports your barrier (think ceramides, glycerin, and soothing ingredients).
Small habit, big payoff: sleep on a clean pillowcase the first night. It’s one of the easiest ways to reduce irritation and surprise breakouts.

When to text or call us at Body by Lily (and what’s normal)
A little pinkness right after your Anti-Aging Facial can be normal. Mild tightness can be normal too, especially if the weather is shifting and Indianapolis heating is starting to dry the air out. What we don’t want is anything that looks like it’s getting worse instead of better.
Reach out if you notice:
- Redness or swelling that lasts longer than 48 hours or seems to intensify.
- Blistering, severe burning, or hives.
- Oozing, crusting, increasing tenderness, or anything that makes you worry about infection.
- A breakout that feels unusual for you and keeps spreading over a few days.
We’d always rather you ask a quick question than stress and guess. If you’re coming in from Eagle Creek, Clermont, Zionsville, or anywhere else on the northwest side, we’ll help you troubleshoot so your results stay on track.
